The Lead Test →

What if I screw up?

If you fail your lead test, it's fine. You wait some time and simply take the test again. Practice fixing what you did wrong and use the experience as an opportunity to practice fixing what you did wrong.

It doesn't help that words like pass, fail, test, and exam conjure bad memories from school, but you shouldn't feel any pressure or associate negative emotions with climbing. Climbing is just something we do for fun, and the lead test exists to keep everyone safe — it's not a measure of your worth. For this reason, we wish gyms would start referring to the assessment not as a lead test but, instead, as a lead quest, which better reflects the nature of the sport.
